Központfúráshoz lehetőleg merev és minél nagyobb átmérőjű központfúrót használunk annak érdekében, hogy a kisebb (max. d15-20 mm-es) furatokhoz a központfúrásnál előre elkészíthessük a rajz szerinti süllyesztést is. Ez úgy oldható meg, hogy a központfúró fúrási mélységét a süllyesztés méretének megfelelően tervezzük a programban. Ha a központfúrásnál nem oldható meg a furatok süllyesztése (túl nagy méretű furatok) külön süllyesztő szerszámot kell használni.

Amennyiben a központfúró fúrási mélységét egyben a készítendő süllyesztéshez is megfelelővé kívánjuk tenni, legegyszerűbb, ha a programozott fúrási mélységet markánsan a kész méret fölé állítjuk be a programban és a belövésnél pl. kézikerékkel néhány próbát végezve pontosítjuk a helyes méretet (pl. G81 X20 Y20 R3 Z0 programozva majd Z-3.65 mm-re beállítva a fúrási mélység kitöréshez). Főleg az utánköszörült központfúrók esetében nehéz előre kiszámítani a helyes fúrási mélységet.
